Mrs Jane L. McPherson, MICHT, MAR, AOR, HND in Complementary Therapies

Jane McPherson opened Soul Soother Therapies in 2004, she is a fully qualified HND complementary therapist, including clinical reflexology, aromatherapy and advanced massage. Her studies have included attending Moray College in Elgin, Scotland full time for two years. Facials, manicures and pedicures were included in her training, to provide a wide range of treatments to the client.

After Graduating, she furthered her knowledge by completing a post-graduate course in aromatic acupressure and meridian massage with The Institute of Traditional Herbal Medicine and Aromatherapy. Jane has received personal tuition from the reflexology guru Dwight Byers, as well as studying Vertical Reflexology, focusing on the skeletal and endocrine systems.

She is also a Full Member of the Association of Reflexologists, MAR, the Federation of Holistic Therapists, MICHT, Association of Reiki, the Guild of Child & Infant Massage instructors and has a DDC certificate for her baby massage instruction course.

Jane gained valuable experience in the beauty field and Spa industry at Skibo Castle, Dornoch, using Clarins products, as well as running a complementary therapy clinic four days a week in the Highlands for over three years.

In 2005 Jane moved to Masham, North Yorkshire with her husband - a time to develop further her skills and knowledge. She set up the treatment rooms at Swinton Park, Masham, North Yorkshire, where she is senior therapist and holds a private clinic for complementary therapies in the Village.

Jane is a member of the Reiki Association as a Master who teaches Level 1 and 11, locally or on request nationwide. She also regularly practices Reiki on herself and clients.

Indian head massage and Chakra balancing is a favourite of Jane’s, her studies having been accredited by The Guild of Professional Beauty Therapists.

Combining her energy and massage skills, Jane also studied the original hot and cold stone massage, LaStone therapy. Jane Scrivener - the pioneer who introduced LaStone therapy to the UK, from its origins in Tucson, Arizona, USA - continues to teach the course, to ensure consistent quality of education and treatment experience. She then went on to study Thermo-Auricular therapy (Hopi-Ear), a treatment adapted from a native Indian tribe in America, excellent for ear, nose and throat conditions.

Jane decided to extend her teaching skills to Baby massage instruction for 6 week- to 6 month-olds. This is demonstrated on a large soft doll that parents can easily follow. A course of 3-4 sessions is offered, lasting 75 minutes, on a 1:1 or within a small group. This is proven to help infant development and ease common ailments. Colic, sleep and digestive issues can be eased and touch can help with brain development and general growth. Baby massage is a lovely activity for parent and baby to enjoy together, promoting relaxation and the release of stress-busting hormones for both baby and parent.

In order to enhance her teaching practice Jane has studied the City & Guilds 7407 part 1 and 2 at Harrogate college, a professional qualification for adult education and training.

In 2007 Jane has taken her massage and energy work to the ultimate level by taking the “Deep Science sports style” LaStone therapy course; here she introduces more cold marble stones to strip the muscles of congestion, inflammation and tension in order for them to be re-sculptured back into optimum performance. A much more gentle approach to manual sports massage therapy for client and therapist. The mineral stones are indeed said to have therapeutic energies to help balance the client's mind, body and soul.

Jane has enhanced energy work with the stones, Reiki to now include Crystal therapy, in the form the Lastone “Crystal light therapy.” Here the treatment cleanses the client’s aura with smudging - an ancient form of purification. The client is then taken through a guided meditation of opening, cleansing and balancing the chakras with the utilisation of the crystals, toning and the vibration of essential oils. To finish the treatment, the client is treated to a crystal wand energetic massage. As the crystals guide Jane’s healing hands to areas of congestion in the physical and energetic layers of the clients’ aura, balance and harmony can be restored to the mind, body and soul. An ideal treatment for someone who feels stuck in their life, needs clarity on a certain issue or just needs to recharge their batteries to face another day.

Jane fully supports the Prince's Foundation for Integrated Health's aim of self-regulation of complementary therapies for 2008 and is a full member of GICM, AC, AOR and the Association of Reiki, the leading organisations working towards this in the fields of massage, aromatherapy, reflexology and Reiki. It is hoped that self-regulation will protect clients and be a catalyst for complementary therapies to become a recognised profession amongst the medical field and general public, with a view to integrating health care options.
